Sir
Trevor Brooking C.B.E.
• Born 2nd October 1948 in Barking,
Essex.
• Educated at Ripple Junior School,
Barking, then passed 11 plus to reach Grammar
School - Ilford County High for Boys.
• Passed twelve “O” levels
and two “A” levels (Accounts
and Economics).
• Began professional football career
in July 1965 when he joined West Ham United
as apprentice professional. Signed full
professional in July 1967 and remained
at the club for the whole of his career
until retiring in May 1984. Made 635 appearances
and scored 102 goals for the club. F.A.
Cup winner in 1975 and 1980; latter the
most memorable as he scored a header against
Arsenal that was the only goal of the match.
• Played 47 matches for England. Debut
April 1974 in Portugal. Played under four
England managers, Sir Alf Ramsey, Joe Mercer,
Don Revie and Ron Greenwood before playing
his last International in the summer of
1982.
• In June 1981 received the M.B.E.
and about the same time the local West
Ham Council named a road after him - Brooking
Road.
• Received C.B.E. in January 1999.
• Received knighthood in Queen’s
Birthday Honours, July 2004
• Played final match versus Everton
in May 1984 at the age of 35.
• Joined BBC Television and BBC Radio
5 Live commentating and summarising on
football and hosting his own Radio show.
Chairman of Sport England, retiring - October
2002. Caretaker Manager of West Ham United
FC for two spells during 2003. Director
of West Ham United FC until stepping down
to take Football Association directorship.
• Activities now - Chairperson of
Colbrook Plastics Limited, bookbinding,
print finishing and point of sale business
based in London, E15 (www.wireo.co.uk)
since 1970. Director of football development
with the Football Association since January
2004.
• A trustee of the Butler Trust (Prison
Service Award Scheme) - Royal Patron H.R.H.
The Princess Royal. Involvement in various
Charity organisations.
• Married, Wife Hilkka, two children
are Collette and Warren.
